Hosted by Fırat University of Elâzığ, the “Symposium on Women and Family from the Perspectives of History, Law, and Psychology”, to be held on 14–16 May 2026, aims to examine the concept of women and family within an interdisciplinary academic framework at the intersection of history, law, and psychology. The historical transformation of women and the family institution—both of which play a vital role in shaping societies—their position within legal regulations, and their impact on individual and collective mental health constitute the main thematic areas of the symposium. In this context, the symposium seeks to evaluate approaches to women and family from past to present through a multidimensional perspective.
The primary objective of the symposium is to analyze historical continuities and ruptures related to women and family together with the social and psychological reflections of legal regulations; to discuss contemporary issues through an interdisciplinary lens; and to develop scientifically grounded solutions. Accordingly, the symposium aims not only to contribute to the academic literature but also to enhance scholarly awareness regarding the strengthening of women and family.
This comprehensive academic event seeks to go beyond viewing women and family merely as a historical legacy or within the confines of existing legal frameworks, by addressing them in conjunction with their psychological and social dimensions and by developing holistic approaches oriented toward the future. Through panels, paper presentations, and academic discussions held throughout the symposium, participants will have the opportunity to conduct multifaceted analyses of how historical experiences are reflected in legal regulations and in individual and societal psychology. In this respect, the symposium aims to foster interdisciplinary academic dialogue, promote collaboration, and generate scientifically based approaches to current issues concerning women and family.
